How it Started

Lora-Lee had the idea for an accessible, affordable, and healthy cafe in her mind for quite some time. In July 2013 this idea came to life when she opened The Healthy Owl in North Waterloo.

Her first priority was making everything taste great — if it didn't taste great, it didn't make the menu! New items were always tested by staff first, tweaked if necessary, and then tested by a few regular customers to provide feedback. Only after an item had received glowing reviews by all parties did it get added to the menu. ‘OK’ just didn't make the grade!

Daily Preparation

Lora-Lee and her staff prepare everything on site each morning. This allows her to readily answer customers’ questions regarding the ingredients used and other nutritional information. Ultimately, this allows customers to have a worry-free experience with the delicious and healthy food.

Our Values 

At The Healthy Owl, we care about sustainability. We do our part by buying local and using the most environmentally friendly resources and practices in our operations. 

We adjust our menu as the seasons change both for the quality of our locally grown produce as well as the feeling of alignment with nature that this inspires. 

Our take-out containers (certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute) are made from 100% plant-based renewable resources, and our take-out cutlery is designed to break down easily in landfills. 
We ensure that all of our organic waste is composted and we carefully sort through all of our recyclables.
